The best recipe keeper apps in 2026 (an honest comparison)

forever.recipes publishes this comparison and makes one of the five products in it, so read it as a well-sourced list, not an independent review. Every competitor fact below comes from that company's own website or its US App Store listing, linked in the sources at the end. We checked them on October 1, 2026, and left out anything we could not confirm there. We did not buy every app or test every feature.

Prices are US prices. App Store prices can differ by country, and ReciMe says its own price depends on your plan and your region. Check the official page before you pay.

First, what do you need a recipe keeper for?

  • Saving recipes from websites and social media for weeknight cooking: look at Paprika, ReciMe and Mela.
  • A meal plan and a grocery list built from your recipes: Paprika, Recipe Keeper, ReciMe and Mela all describe both.
  • Getting a box of handwritten family cards into one place, and maybe onto paper: look at Recipe Keeper's PDF cookbooks and at forever.recipes.
  • Apple devices only: Mela runs on iPhone, iPad and Mac. The others also reach Android, Windows or the web.

Paprika

Paprika, from Hindsight Labs, runs on iOS, Mac, Android and Windows, and its site says each version is sold separately. On the US App Store, Paprika Recipe Manager 3 is a $4.99 purchase for iPhone and iPad and $29.99 for Mac, with no subscription shown. The site also says Paprika 4 is in open beta.

Its official pages describe a built-in browser that saves recipes from websites, meal plans by week or month, grocery lists sorted by aisle with similar ingredients combined, scaling, metric and imperial conversion, and cloud sync of recipes, lists and meal plans across devices. The iOS user guide covers printing, including index cards and sheets of cards to cut out, and exporting your collection as HTML or in Paprika's own format.

Good fit: cooks who save a lot of recipes from the web and want a one-time price per platform.

Recipe Keeper

Recipe Keeper, from Tudorspan, runs on iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows and Mac. Its site invites you to try it free. On the US App Store the app is a free download with a Recipe Keeper Pro Upgrade in-app purchase at $19.99 on iPhone and iPad and $29.99 on Mac.

The official site lists import from hundreds of recipe websites, scanning recipes with the phone camera or from photos and PDF files with text recognition, a weekly and monthly meal planner, shopping lists grouped by aisle, and cookbooks of your recipes for printing or sharing as a PDF with your choice of fonts, colors and page sizes.

Good fit: someone who wants a classic recipe app and also wants to print a PDF cookbook from it.

ReciMe

ReciMe runs on iOS, Android, the web and as a Chrome extension. Its site says the free version is limited to 5 recipe imports per week, and that the grocery list, meal plan and cookbooks stay free without a subscription. ReciMe's help center says that in the United States the yearly plan is $39.99, and that prices depend on plan and region. The US App Store lists ReciMe Plus in-app purchases at $29.99, $39.99 and $59.99 without saying which period each covers.

The site describes saving recipes from Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Pinterest and YouTube, from screenshots, and from photos of handwritten recipes, plus meal planning and grocery lists ordered by aisle or by recipe. We did not find printing described on the pages we checked.

Good fit: cooks who find most of their recipes in social media videos.

Mela

Mela, from developer Silvio Rizzi, is for Apple devices only: iPhone, iPad and Mac. On the US App Store it is a free download with an in-app purchase, Mela+, at $6.99 on iPhone and iPad and $14.99 on Mac.

Its site describes an in-app browser that spots recipes on the page you are reading, scanning a recipe from a book with text recognition, a full-screen cook mode with large type, a meal planning calendar, a grocery list kept in Apple's Reminders app, iCloud sync, and printing or saving a recipe as a PDF.

Good fit: an all-Apple household that wants a quiet, focused app.

forever.recipes

This is our product, and it is a different kind of keeper. forever.recipes is a family recipe binder that runs in the browser, with no app to install. Each recipe gets its own sheet behind chapter tabs you name. You can share the binder by link, cook from it on a phone in cook mode, and download a print-ready A5 PDF to print with any printer you choose. We do not print or ship anything.

You can type a recipe, paste rough notes, or photograph a handwritten card and get an AI draft that keeps the cook's own wording; you check every line before saving. The free plan keeps 10 recipes, plus up to 5 private drafts, with 3 AI drafts a day and a small footer on the PDF. Forever Club is $3.90 a week, $9.90 a month or $89.90 a year for unlimited recipes, 20 AI drafts a day and a PDF without the footer.

What it does not do: it does not import recipes from websites or social media, and it has no meal planner or grocery list. If those are what you need, one of the four apps above will serve you better.

Good fit: turning the family's handwritten recipes into one shared binder and a printed copy. See the recipe keeper page or make your own cookbook for details.

How we checked

We read each company's official website and its US App Store listing on October 1, 2026, and recorded only what those pages state. Where a page did not mention a feature, we say we did not find it rather than assuming it is missing. Apps change often; if you spot something out of date, tell us and we will correct it.
