A personalized recipe book is easy to start and easy to leave half-finished. This checklist puts the decisions in order, from who it is for to the final read-through, and keeps the printing (which you arrange with a printer) separate from the recipes (which you control).
Define the recipient and scope
- Write the recipient's name exactly as it may appear on the cover.
- Choose the occasion and the date when the digital book must be reviewed.
- Set a recipe count that the contributors can actually complete.
- Choose a structure, such as meals, occasions, people, or family branches.
- List the recipes that must be present before optional additions begin.
In forever.recipes the cover is a cloth binder (terracotta, forest, navy or cream) with the title, an optional subtitle and a family name written on its label; each recipe is a sheet behind a tab you name. The personalized recipe book page shows what you can change.
Get contributor permission
- Explain whether the binder will stay private or be shared with anyone who has the link.
- Ask before including names, photographs, handwriting, personal notes, or attributed stories.
- Record whether each contribution may appear in the PDF and any copies you arrange to print.
- Offer contributors a chance to review their recipe page before final export.
- Leave out material when permission is missing or unclear.
Work backward from a review date
Set internal dates for collecting, transcribing, contributor review, book-wide proofreading, PDF inspection, and printer handoff. Ask your chosen printer for its current production schedule before deciding when a physical copy could be part of the plan.
- Collection complete
- First transcription complete
- Contributor corrections returned
- Cover and chapter order approved
- PDF inspected
- Printer specifications checked
Choose the cover from known details
Confirm the exact title, subtitle, author line, and cover color. Use names and phrases the recipient or contributors have approved. Check capitalization and spelling on the cover separately from the recipe pages because it is easy to stop seeing a familiar title.
Keep the print choice separate
forever.recipes supplies the online binder and its print-ready PDF. You choose the printer and agree paper, binding, finish, proof, payment, and delivery directly with that provider. Follow the family cookbook printing workflow before handing off the file.
Review the whole gift
- Read every ingredient and method against the approved source.
- Check recipe and tab order in the binder, and look behind the Drafts tab: drafts are left out of the PDF.
- Confirm names, notes, images, and permissions one final time.
- Inspect the exported PDF page by page.
- Save the approved file with a clear version name and date.
If the printer's schedule doesn't fit, give the binder itself: a binder is private until you choose Anyone with the link, so on the day you can share the link, or print a single favorite recipe as a card and promise the full copy later.
For a repeatable way to collect the recipes, use the family recipe interview worksheet with every contributor.
For a December gift, the Christmas page lays out the dates: a family recipe binder for Christmas.
